The London Lifestyle Awards – now in their fourth year – are always one of my favourite nights out of the whole year. Not only is it a great excuse to get glammed up (above is a photo of myself and my sister Joanna at the awards) but so many top London attractions come together. Leading hair salons come together with fabulous restaurants, private members clubs, fitness facilities and tourist attractions to highlight and celebrate the best of the best in our fabulous capital city.
This year, I was left with a really special glow, mainly thanks to some of you readers who voted for me. There’s a category called Personality Of The Year and I was runner-up!
Like all categories, the competitors in this category were diverse – there were nationwide famous names like David Gandy, Alexa Chung and Sheridan Smith alongside myself (very much right now a London based blogger, author and journalist), Camilla Batalendjah (the founder of the charity Kids Company), Tricia Lichfield (founder of the social TV channel Skatta TV).
However, there has to be one winner and that was London PR Guru and charity philanthropist Nick Ede. Like me, Nick has been nominated in this category for three years in a row. However, in the past 12 months since last year’s awards, Nick has raised thousands of pounds for The Stroke Association and other charities and helped Eva Longoria host her A’list charity event The Global Gift Gala. Here’s Nick – the champion – with Tricia and I celebrating his win in our unique way…
Another of my favourite Nicks – Nick House – picked up London Legend award. When I was 18, I remember contacting Nick and asking to be put on his guestlist for a London club, which I think was the K bar or Chinawhite. He’d been in business before I contacted him and now more than 10 years later, not only is he still in the club business but he owns the club business. As the co-founder of Brompton brands he owns some of London’s clubs where you are guaranteed a fun night out (Mahiki, Kanaloa, Whisky Mist, The Rose Club and more that you can see on their website). It’s an award well-deserved and he’s getting even more legendary as he’s opening a pub with model Kelly Brook soon called Steam & Rye!
I also got a warm glow when the gorgeous Nina Naustdal took to the stage to collect Best London Fashion Retailer. I’ve been wearing Nina’s gorgeous creations for a few years and wore a spectacular one at my summer party at The Arch hotel in 2012. It’s about time more people recognised how fabulous Nina is.
Talking of fabulous, guests included Vanessa Feltz and Ben Ofoedu, Strictly Come Dancing’s Kristina Rhianoff, Sinitta and David Seaman (who was on my table) but the funniest (in my opinion) was Britain’s Got Talent impressionist Francine Lewis. And check out her shoes:
The awards took place at The Troxy venue in East London – a fabulous art deco theatre – and I was lucky to sit on a fabulously fun table for dinner. From left to right below you can see Linda Lusardi, Lizzie Cundy, Erica Bergsmeds, my sister and I and Tricia Lichfield from Skatta TV. It was David Seaman, the footballer, who took the photo as he was sat with us too. What a charmer!
But get this – I enjoyed the entertainment so much that I actually got on the dancefloor. This rarely happens as I am very much a ‘watch from the bar’ type of girl. First of all, Lizzie Deane put on a soulful set. This thin blonde glamourpuss has a touch of Aretha Franklin about her, which is utterly brilliant.
Siro-A put on a full visial display of entertainment with light boxes to music. It was mesmerising.
And finally, the fantastic finale was Stooshe. This trio very much represent what London is all about as the three girls are gorgeous in a unique, independent way with their own urban style and ‘couldn’t care less attitude’. They were put together after being scouted in Topshop and they make the most of the London Party Sceneand they were even spotted in TopShop
Now I want to end this post with not one but two treats for everybody reading that did not get to go to the awards but still wants to enjoy our capital city. First of all, who wants to get discounts to all the best salons / retailers / bars and clubs that were nominated? The London Lifestyle Awards have now officially launched their own deals scheme (think Groupon / Wowcher but lots better as the deals are ones you actually want). It’s free to download on the App store – look for My London Lifestyle Offers.
Second, maybe you need a guide about what’s good in the capital? Look out for My London Lifestyle magazine. The first issue went on sale on 22 August and the second issue has now gone to print, with the full details of who won what. Look out for it on a newsstand / in a hotel / airport soon!
I think its awards time now, don’t you? There are 20 awards in total and you can find out about each by following London Lifestyle Awards on Twitter @LLAwards. If you want to make sure you are getting the most out of London, try to make it to a few of the venues on the shortlist.
Whatever you do today, enjoy London. If you visit any of these venues, please tell me how you get on. I’m on Twitter @zoegriffin and I love to chat!
