London Last Night
British Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman celebrated the launch of her debut novel, ‘Can We Still Be Friends,’ at Sotheby’s last night. The story revolves around a group of twenty something girls who leave university in the 1980’s and struggle to cope with life, love and friendship (is this story about us?) The writer was joined by a whole host of celebrity friends at the famous auction house to toast her achievement.
The journalist who had the support of Sophie Dahl, Nigella Lawson, Christopher Bailey and Philip Green to name but a few, was happy to talk literature but not much else. We DID get some great gossip and tips from the other celebs though, so read on and get the goss:
The EVENT: Alexandra Shulman’s ‘Can We Still Be Friends’ Book Launch
The VENUE: Sotheby’s auction house, South Kensington
The OVERVIEW: Fashion darlings and writers gather for one of the most influential women in journalism’s debut novel…
VIP VA VA VOOM:
(1) Sophie Dahl looked slimmer than ever at the launch yesterday. The model, who has been a Vogue cover girl three times, seemed to be steering clear of the canapés (as did most of the beautiful people). We have to say though her skin looked radiant and she told us, “skincare is the most important aspect of beauty.” When we caught up with the celebrity chef (she’s a jack of all trades you know), she said, “I love Eve Lom cleanser and Clarins Beauty Flash Balm.” If Eve Lom can get us the glow Sophie has, then that’s where we’re heading.
(2) Our favourite celebrity chef Nigella Lawson looked like half the woman she used to be. We know she’s lost some weight, but jeez the lady is shrinking before our very eyes. Seeing Nigella looking so trim sparked the green eyed monster in us. When we spoke to the domestic Goddess she let us into her diet secrets. “I took up Pilates classes to help with my bad back some months ago and since I’ve been doing them, I’ve actually dropped a couple of dress sizes.” I guess that means we’re going down the gym then.
(3) Samantha Cameron (the Cameron we LIKE), worked the party like a fashion pro. The Prime Minister’s wife looked so hip we almost forgot she is a politician’s wife. We caught up with the yummy mummy and simply HAD to ask how she keeps herself looking so trim. “I ride my bike everywhere. It is much more eco friendly to ride a bike instead of relying on public transport, or driving. Plus it gives you a great workout.” On our way to Halfords we go then.
Tomorrow we expect to have lots more celeb goss for you as we are going to a Vitamin Water sponsored Jessie J gig and the launch of David Guetta’s new watch brand. One night, two parties – watch out London town!
