Date Like A VIP At The Corinthia

I’ve had an epiphany when it comes to dating. Make sure the date is something that you enjoy doing because if you don’t enjoy the company of your date you can still make the most of the venue and the experience. It took me years of compromise to work this out with the ultimate low being getting all dressed up to meet a man that looked as old as my dad (he’d used photoshop in his profile pictures) in a Wetherspoon’s that had rose wine on tap. Wine poured from the same sort of tap they pour beer from is wrong!

Anyway, I’ve worked this out so that you don’t have to. On Live Like a VIP we only talk about the finer things in life like a dating event that’s going to be hosted at The Corinthia Hotel on 29 May. There will be champagne, canapés and it will take place in this stunning room – The Massimo Bar.

    Massimo Restaurant & Bar (landscape)

It gets better…it’s an intimate mingling with the finest people in London selected by the managers of the hotel on behalf of two New York singletons. Two glamorous TV journalists have complained that there are no single men left in New York so The Corinthia hotel has challenged them to come to London and find it. They want to find 20 British men to show these gorgeous and successful New York journalists, and to create a better atmosphere they’re also looking for 20 British women for a balanced soiree. It will all be filmed for the TV, a bit like  one of my fave TV shows Millionaire Matchmaker, so you can guarantee a high calibre of singles?

INTERESTED? Fed up with online dating? Email zoe@livelikeavip.com and we’ll forward your email onto The Corinthia Hotel for consideration. The event is from 6-8pm.

Here’s a bit more info about the ladies:

Karen Schaler is an Emmy-winning Creator and Host of Travel Therapy TV married to her job, but hoping to find a man who will understand…

Karen and her friends describe her as very social, energetic, lively and driven; and organiser and entrepreneur through and through. Always career-    oriented, Karen grew up just outside of Seattle and Los Angeles and has lived in 12 different US states. Karen loves travel above all else; a passion which  has brought her to over 62 countries. She is sporty, active, loves an adventure, new cultures, and great food.

    Height: 5’8

Looking for men aged 40-55, but young at heart, hip, fun, and active

    Deal-breakers: No smoking or drugs.

denise Denise Naughton is an Emmy-winning Executive National TV Producer coming to London looking for the “one”…

Denise and her friends describe her as laid back, calm, easy going, down to earth, and more likely to go with the flow than to plan an event herself. She’s a wholesome Midwest girl at heart and grew up in tiny town in Missouri (population less than 1,000), which keeps her grounded. Denise also LOVES watching baseball.

    Height: 5’3.

Looking for men aged 40-55, but young at heart, hip, fun, and active.

    Deal-breakers: No smoking or drugs.

Do you reckon British guys are better than American ones? Want to prove it or see for yourself? Then email!  zoe@livelikeavip.com

We’ll be at the event on 29 May to see what happens!

Inside BAFTA TV Awards Style Suite

Have you ever wondered what it takes to look like a VIP? And when I mean VIP,  I mean worthy of walking the red carpet of the biggest award ceremony in the television calendar – the BAFTA TV awards.

The BAFTA TV awards 2015 are taking place in London’s Theatre Royal on 10 May, but the celebrities start getting red carpet ready at least a month before that. This year,  Bafta has partnered with the luxurious five star Corinthia hotel to host some ‘Style Suites’, containing all the elements a celebrity needs to make it into the Best Dressed section of the magazines. They can literally walk in wearing their skinny jeans and shades and emerge looking a million dollars having sorted an outfit, tanning, make-up, nails, hair and jewellery. Want to know what happens at each stage? I went through the process so I can talk you through each step. This is how I looked at the beginning:

And this is how I looked at the end. I couldn’t believe it.

All our fave TV stars follow this process – Tess Daly, Claudia Winkleman, Sheridan Smith and Olivia Colman will be getting ready the way I did.

It all starts with preparing the body by creating a base colour. St Tropez is the self-tan of choice for so many celebrities so I wasn’t surprised that they were involved in this event. I met tanner Jules Heptonstall, who has tanned celebrities like Kylie Jenner, Poppy Delevingne and Kate Moss. He applied a spray tan and then topped it up to create a glow that would attract attention from the flashbulbs.

Next was the hair, where I met Mark Hill and his team of creative experts. How often do you get two men working on your hair at once – this is uber VIP. It took just 10 minutes to do my hair, using Mark’s gorgeous products.

MAC is the make-up partner, which I was really excited about as I wear it a lot, after getting into it during London Fashion Week one year (they’re the official make-up partner for it). I went for a soft smokey eye and a neutral lip and kept the foundation light with a pink blush to show off and complement the St Tropez glow.

With the grooming sorted, I found a gorgeous dress from a selection provided from House of Fraser. Now this bit was every girls dream.  There were rows and rows of dresses – golds and pinks and blacks. Some were long, some were short and some were embellished and some were plain. I opted for something spectacular in red, which was from the Biba brand. What do you think?

If you like it as much as I do, its available on the House of Fraser website.

And finally, the icing on the cake is always the jewellery and trust me, I went for lots of ice. I wore a lovely diamond bracelet from Carat, some ear-rings and this gorgeous ring. Again, it was every girls dream. Once I’d chosen my dress, a lovely lady suggested what jewellery would emphasise the best features of my outfit. We didn’t want to ruin the neckline of the dress but it was vital to have some sparkly things!

Here’s the finished look, which I’m sure everyone would agree is an improvement on my starting photo. I truly felt red carpet ready after treatments by St Tropez, Mac, Mark Hill, House of Fraser and Carat in the stylish surroundings of the Corinthia hotel.  If you want to feel like a VIP too, then you need all these things in your life.

  • Travel Review: VIP Malta

If you’re looking for an early summer holiday offering sunshine, great food and wine and some fascinating sightseeing, Malta could be just for you.

We’ve just come back from a four-day trip to the Mediterranean Island with gorgeous suntans and some happy memories after living the VIP lifestyle at the sumptuously five star Corinthia Hotel, St George’s Bay. This hotel has great facilities, really friendly staff and a very cool vibe. It is also ideally situated to explore everything Malta has to offer and we reckon there are lots of cultural and culinary treasures which definitely warrant a visit.

So, where to start? We absolutely loved the Drappier Carte D’or champagne in the Corinthia’s stylish Pearl Lounge cocktail bar.

    Pearl Lounge

At 12 Euros per glass, this refined Champagne didn’t break the bank and we’ll be ordering a case now we’re back in London. Sipping some bubbles proved the perfect way to unwind in the evening after a hard day spent reclining in our bikinis beside the hotel’s cascading outdoor pool complex which flows all the way down to a private beach lido. Check out these pics we took of the three outdoor pools:

    photo 4 (4)

    Pool Area 2

There’s also a really cute indoor pool which is part of the hotel’s cosy  Apollo day spa and leisure complex.

    Apollo Day Spa Indoor Pool

Making the most of the spa, we treated ourselves to treatments including a soothing chocolate wrap which left our skin silky smooth. The hour-long treatments were reasonably priced too at 50 Euros and the spa is of a standard you’d expect from a five star hotel. The treatment rooms had bamboo on the walls, soft music and soft massage beds with thick warm towels – if our rooms weren’t so comfortable we’d have happily slept there at night!

The 249-room hotel also has great restaurants, in particular the stylish Caviar and Bull where we washed down scallops, black squid ink calamari and salt-encrusted sea bass with mojitos and Maltese red wine (surprisingly tasty!) This restaurant is set in front of the hotel complex and benefits from breath-taking sea views – the perfect backdrop for a girlie dinner or a romantic meal with your partner.

    Caviar & Bull Restaurant

Weather-wise we were lucky as the sun was shining for most of the time, hence Zoe came home as brown as a berry. But when it was cloudy we took a taxi into Malta’s capital city, Valletta. If you’re looking to tick the culture box when you’re on holiday, the sixteenth century St John’s Co-Cathedral is a must visit. This church is beautifully ornate while its paintings and decorations tell the dramatic story of Malta’s amazing history including the island’s role in the Crusades and the advance of the Ottoman Empire.

    photo 2 (3)

The hotel concierge can suggest extra things during the trip and we found all the staff at The Corinthia went the extra mile to ensure we got what we wanted. Every day, there’s a special activity for hotel guests – a chance to learn how to make Maltese jewellery, a complimentary massage lesson or a walk into the capital city. There’s a shuttle bus from the hotel in St George’s bay to Valletta, which takes around 15 mins, and they’ll take you and collect you for free. Valletta’s the European Capital of Culture in 2018 so if you don’t have a look around, you’ll regret it.

All this sun and sea and sightseeing caused us to work up an appetite, but we’re not the sort of people that can eat anywhere. Nothing disappoints us more than tourist rip-off restaurants and so we did some pre-holiday research. I’m happy to report that we chose some great places as we found a little gem in Rampila, an intimate, charming little eaterie set inside 500-year-old castle ramparts which were built by the Knights of St John. You can see the fortress walls if you dine al fresco on the terrace.

Going down the original stone stairs from the street we descended, a little warily, into a tunnel which led to the most atmospheric dining area.

The waiters were absolutely charming and spoke perfect English while the menu was truly international in flavour, combining Italian, French and North African influences. A little guiltily the VIP team found the rabbit dishes simply too tasty to pass up. Sorry Thumper! Even on a slightly chilly March evening Rampila proved a delightful venue. Be sure to book a table if you visit Valletta as you won’t be disappointed.

Michael’s at the Civil Service Sports Club is another restaurant you could consider. The entrance took our breath away!

The setting is a wonderful stone building while just inside the front door is a really tempting table of freshly caught fish including delicious-looking red snapper. Presentation in this place is out of this world with a mzckerel and salmon starter a particular highlight.

Michael turned out to be the restaurant’s head chef and master of ceremonies, going from table to table ensuring we were enjoying our mains of curried monkfish and salmon pasta. He gave us stories and anecdotes about Maltese life and history, fuelling us up in more ways than one for another day of adventure in Malta.

All said we loved Malta and think you will too. The Corinthia – which is part of a hotel group which includes the luxurious Corinthia hotel on London’s Embankment – would be a wonderful setting for your holiday whatever the time of year. Visit The Corinthia Website now to get the best available rate and to see What’s On at the hotel in terms of activities.

Viva Mayr Launches At Corinthia Hotel

What’s your favourite hotel spa? You may think you have an answer to this question but have you ever visited ESPA Life at The Corinthia Hotel?

The spa has been open almost three years now and since then the celebrity guests that have flocked through the doors of the five star central London hotel have made use of the four floors of spa (London’s biggest spa facility). This means a long list of A’listers including Rihanna, Oprah Winfrey, John Travolta, Forrest Whittaker, Cameron Diaz and Beyonce Carter! I have to admit I was late to join the party but better late than never, right?

Now is the ideal time to visit as the spa, part of the ESPA brand created by the dynamic spa guru Susan Hemsworthhas announced a very exciting collaboration. The world famous Viva Mayr clinic in Austria will be partnering with the hotel and spa from July, bringing their range of nutrition, lifestyle and detox treatments to Londoners. The founders of the Viva Mayr clinic, Drs Christine and Harold Stossier will offer medical consultations at ESPA life for 2-3 days every 2 months.

With Applied Kinesiology muscle testing, Orthomolecular testing, advice on diet, nutrition and lifestyle and recommended complementary therapies, we will be able to detox and refresh our bodies in the best way possible. The Viva Mayr clinic in Austria has treated royalty (including the Duchess of York), celebrities (from Liz Hurley to Rita Ora) and politicians, so it’s really exciting that it’s easier than ever before to experience the same treatments without having to fly to Austria.

To mark the launch, I attended a small cocktail party in the sumptuous surroundings of the spa, which took my breath away. If you want to see why the celebs go to The Corinthia’s ESPA Life then check out these photos that I took on the night.

Dr Harold Stossier speaks in the reception area about the Viva Mayr ethics

The hotel is located near The Strand, Westminster and The River Thames.

Visit the ESPA Life at Corinthia website for more details and to check out the range of treatments and spa day packages. I’ll have an update on the new Viva Mayr offering when it launches properly next month.

  • Bathe Like A VIP: Hotel Bathroom Inspiration

It’s all very well putting on a VIP show to the world with our fashion and beauty but nobody is truly a VIP until their house is in order. I want to tackle this problem room by room, starting with my  favourite room of the house – the bathroom. Every moment I spend in my bathroom is ‘me’ time – luxuriating in the bath, putting on a luxury hair treatment or applying a face mask. It’s the place I go to escape the world and that’s why it’s important it’s a space that makes me feel special. Don’t you want the same?

Until recently, I didn’t think there was anything wrong with my bathroom. The bath’s a good size, I have a heated towel rack and there’s a powerful light above the mirror (essential for applying make-up). But then I visited the Baglioni Hotel in London’s Kensington and I got bathroom envy. Immediately, I wanted to re-tile my bathroom but then I got busy with work and I put it off and thought no more about it…until I visited the W Hotel in Leicester Square.

Inspired by London’s most luxurious and VIP hotels, I’ve got some inspiration for my own bathroom. So have a read of the five things I’ve learned from hotel bathrooms below and let me know if you have any other suggestions. Tweet me @livelikeavip

    (1)    Jacuzzi – W Hotel Leicester Square

I said earlier that my bath is a good size but it doesn’t have any exploding bubbles! Obviously I use bubble bath and drink a glass of fizz in the tub but how cool would it be to have massage jets?

    (2)    Black Tiles and Mirrors – Baglioni Hotel

When I first walked in this bathroom it took my breath away. The black is so sophisticated and classy and very unisex – it might encourage men to spend more time in the bathroom, which can only be a good thing judging by most men’s feet. (I HATE MEN’S FEET!)

Black can obviously make rooms appear smaller so you do need to have a lot of mirrors in a bathroom like this.

    (3)    Proper Taps – Corinthia Hotel

I know it’s weird to think about something as small as the taps but I like old fashioned hot and cold taps rather than the new ones that mix hot and cold together. I know its easy to burn yourself on the hot tap but I’d deal with that (turn it on gently) for the way it looks with these old school taps

    (4)    Solid Sink – Sanderson Hotel

I don’t want a sink exactly like this as it wouldn’t go with the taps I like but seeing the solid basin in the bathroom of the suite at the Sanderson hotel (when I attended the Kardashians for Lipsy press day) made me realise the importance of having a solid washbasin. If it’s good quality ceramic then it’s looks more luxury and us VIP need luxury.

    (5)    TV in the bath – Arch Hotel

I am in two minds about this. I do spend a lot of time in the bath and it would be cool to watch TOWIE in the bath with some bubbles. But being in a bath is good thinking time. I think the solution should be to get one and I don’t have to turn it on all the time.

What do you think to my plans? Reckon all the five elements will mix together? Reckon I need anything else? I’m getting a bit obsessed by shopping for fittings for luxury bathrooms

Afternoon Tea (And Fries) At Rihanna’s Favourite Hotel

We have just got some juicy goss at the G.I Joe: Retaliation press conference attended by the HOT Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock – look out for that post coming soon – but first we decided to do a bit of investigating while we were at the ultra fancy Corinthia Hotel.

We love reading things like Time Out but you can never really tell what its like from that so we have some photos that we took and we experienced it as you might – paying for everything and being wowed by the opulence….A home away from home for stars like Bajan beauty Rihanna, The Corinthia is as glam as they come, certainly outdoing The Dorchester and The Grosvenor place with their modern surroundings.

Worried about busting the budget on an afternoon snack, Zoe decided to go for a glass of sparkling water, while Tajha went for some refreshing and exotic Mango tea. A snack of fries was served with some heinz tomato ketchup, mayonaise, mustard and HP barbecue sauce in some ultra cute condiment jars.

    IMG_4077 IMG_4079

Including service charge this only set us back £14.63 showing that you don’t always need to spend a fortune to pass an afternoon in a top hotel. If you’re looking to blow a bit more of a VIP budget that us, then you can choose from your typical Club Sandwich for £17  to a Cumbrian chargrilled beef burger served with a choice of hen eggs, dried cured bacon or Mrs Kirkhams Lancashire cheese with fries for £14.

Or if you are feeling adventurous there’s a hand chopped beef steak tartare with toasted sour dough for starters for £10 – the menu is that vast!. Look at the choice of hot beverages for a start!

For this plush setting- and cutlery – there is a price tag to match whether you’re coming for an Afternoon Tea like us or a three course meal with some tasty treats to finish off this service like a almond meringue or a cranberry apple tart.

No matter what you spend you should see at least one if not two celebrities entering or leaving The Corinthia and that is worth paying for!
