My Night With Leonardo Di Caprio And Matt Damon
I am so happy to be in Cannes right now for the film festival. Please don’t hate me for being there when you’re not as my aim is to get you all the gossip. Hopefully then you can feel like you’re there through me. And trust me, it’s not always as glam as you think (especially when it’s blowing a hurricane most days).
However, last night was pretty special, I was lucky. Sometimes I like to write a blog post in chronological order but on this occasion I think I should just start with the biggest celebs first. And you couldn’t really get that much bigger than Leonardo Di Caprio right now. After The Great Gastby event on Weds night, Leo’s been partying every single night since he got to Cannes, dancing with different girls each time, and last night he attracted A LOT of attention at the De Grisogono jewellery party at the Hotel Du Cap. And I have to be honest, I attracted his attention too…
How did I attract the Titanic star’s attention? In this situation,I had to summon every last bit of nerve that I had and approach him. I couldn’t be at the same event as Leo and not talk to him, I just couldn’t…I knew his dad George Di Caprio was in Cannes as he’s turning into a bit of a producer and so I figured it was safe to ask about that. Everyone likes promoting their friends and family and Leo was no exception, telling me ‘my dad’s making a movie about JFK. It’s pretty cool to have him in Cannes, I’m close to my family and I don’t see them enough. It [JFK] is the best subject he could pick right now because it’s real-life and open-ended. We still don’t know what really happened.’ I agreed with that!
While I was chatting with Leo (who is actually a bit taller than you would expect) I handed my friend my camera to get ‘interview photos’ and NONE came out! I was quite disappointed (and angry at the time) but just imagine a man who is 6ft with gingerbread biscuit coloured skin (I swear it’s fake tan because it hasn’t been that warm in LA). He’s got a light goatee beard but it’s almost like designer stubble as his natural hair colour is fair. And I was most disappointed by his smell or my ability to pick up his smell but there was no hint of aftershave or fragrance. From my encounter of him, Leo is not the type of guy who would hog the bathroom for ages. He would just ‘wash and go’ he’s not your typical Hollywood poser, he’s better than that. I just WISH that pic came out!
Earlier in the day, I got pretty close to Matt Damon who is in Cannes for what will be (trust me) one of the most successful films of the year. Behind The Candleabra is all about flamboyant performer Liberace and stars Michael Douglas (looking healthy after his cancer and Matt Damon). Cannes isn’t like London as the actors walk down the red carpet without talking to journalists but I was able to take a photo and it came out and I think Matt is looking rather delicious in his schoolteacher style glasses. What do you think?
I was given one of the images from the film and this is Michael Douglas playing Liberace. The bling on the piano is just one scene in a movie filed with excess and crystals.
When I interviewed Dita, she said it was the film she was most excited about seeing in Cannes and lucky for her she was at the premiere. When I met her she was in a red dress, very similar to what she wore last night. It was more conservative (ie less see-through) but personally I think it’s slightly odd to bring out two very similar dresses in two consecutive nights. Obviously red is her colour but couldn’t she have changed things up a bit? What do you think?
Model Petra Nemcova had it right at the premiere in my opinion. Now THAT is a dress – fishtail, foil and a deep v-neck. Very mermaid like but it makes her stand out for the right reasons.
And talking of standing out, I heard a strong Northern accent when I was walking down the beach to find a taxi to get to the Hotel Du Cap for the De Grisogono event. I turned around and it was Mel B, Scary Spice. What was she doing walking down the promenade? Her husband Stephen Belafonte is a film producer and he was hosting an event with Disaronno on one of the beaches. You just never know who you’ll see in Cannes. Apparently, Lucy Mecklenburgh from The Only Way Is Essex is also here, which is very surreal. Whatever next – TOWIE’s Nanny Pat?
Today’s activities include checking out who’s at Nikki beach, visiting the beachfront hotels, grabbing a strong Nespresso on their pop-up beach, a bit of red-carpet watching then an art preview at Baoli beach. I’ll tell you EXACTLY what I see and hopefully take better photos.
