Samantha Faiers Launches Tan And Perfume

Samantha Faiers is one busy pregnant lady! While most women might be indulging in a rest to prepare for the birth of a new baby in January, Sam’s been busy launching not one but two new beauty products. What’s even more impressive is that she looks as glam as ever.

    billie-sam

In this picture, Sam’s at the Radio Rooftop bar at the ME London hotel for a party to mark the launch of her products.

I was lucky enough to attend the party for some delicious bubbly and canapes (including truffle fries) and to meet the lady herself.

    zoe-radio-bar

The first product that caught my eye was Sam’s new perfume, Pure. Her first perfume Bella won Best Celebrity Fragrance in The Fragrance Shop’s awards. To put this into context, it outsold One Direction’s fragrance!

I loved Bella’s sensual vanilla smell, and I wasn’t sure if she could improve on it, but Pure is feminine in a different way. It’s very floral with jasmine, orange blossom and ylang ylang, and there’s a lasting hint of musk. The bottle is diamond cut and would look gorgeous on anyone’s dressing table.

    samantha-faiers-perfume-pure

Sam’s second product, self-tan, also has striking packaging. You can tell a lot of effort has gone into the product when even the packaging detail’s been thought about. It contains moisturiser and anti-oxidants to hydrate the skin so your tan lasts for longer, plus there’s a special ingredient to ensure it doesn’t smell too artificial.

And then it was time to steal Sam away from her supportive boyfriend Paul Knightley for a chat…

    sam-paul

QS: How long does it take you to come up with these products?

SAM: A long time! I’m passionate about beauty so it’s important for me to make a product I would like to use. I’m involved in every detail of a product, from the smell, to the texture to the packaging. I could never put my name to something I didn’t like.

QS: Was making the perfume hard as has your sense of smell changed now that your pregnant?

SAM: No, I’ve been very lucky. I’ve had hardly any symptoms – no sickness, no change of smell. My sister Billie had a similar pregnancy with Nellie, so maybe it runs in the family and we’re both lucky. I just hope my baby is as well behaved as Nelly.

QS: Do you know if you’re having a boy or a girl?

SAM: No, and I won’t find out until the birth. It will be a nice surprise. I’m concentrating on the pregnancy right now and enjoying it. I’m glad I’ve got a little bump now. Its nice to show it off in tight dresses. I don’t feel the need to hide it in a big smock. I’m proud of it.

QS: Will a  baby inspire you to work on some baby products?

SAM: Maybe. It depends if I have time!

I have to say, I think if Sam wants to find time, she’ll make time. What she’s done since leaving The Only Way is Essex is remarkable and she also recvelaed to me that she won’t slow down until December – just a month before the due date of her baby.

And with that, I tore myself away from the beautiful views in the bar and left with some perfume. It’s a gorgeous scent – I couldn’t stop smelling my wrists all night!

Pure the new fragrance is avaliable from The Fragrance Shop and Glow will be avaliable at selected retail outlets from October

Top 7 Easy To Pull Off Henna Tattoos & Mehndi Designs

How do you feel about tattoos? I admire the bravery of celebs that have tattoos. As I’m a bit indecisive, I could never make a decision that permanently affects my appearance.

Fashions change and I can’t think of anything worse than getting a tattoo and regretting it a few years later. Laser removal is both painful and expensive, so not really an option for most of us.

However, there is a middle ground – henna tattoos. If it’s good enough for Beyonce, it’s good enough for me!

    Beyonce-Henna-Tattoo

This reddish brown dye is easy to apply and you can create beautiful, intricate easy henna mehndi designs that look more feminine than traditional tattoos. The average person gets two weeks out of a henna tattoo, and then you can try a new design. Here are 7 easy to do designs:

    (1) Henna Qustion Mark Stencil

    henna1

If you’re just starting out with henna then you probably don’t want to risk going freehand. Henna paste is best fresh so you can either buy the powder or look for a store that sells fresh henna online and ships regularly (I recommend  Hennashop.co.uk).

Scrub the skin that will get the tattoo to remove any oil from the skin. Pat it dry.

Practise using the tube on a piece of paper so you know how quickly it comes out and how much pressure to apply. Then it’s time to use the stencil above. All you have to do is apply a thin layer all over and then remove the stencil and you have  beautiful pattern. There are lots of stencils, just like this one, on Amazon.

    (2) Henna Hand And Arm Stencil

    hnna2

I like this shape as it looks more intricate than a traditional circle design but using the stencil makes it easy. This is great if you’re wearing a feminine dress, but I’d also have it when I’m wearing a leather jacket and show off that I’m feisty but I’m also womanly.

TOP TIP: As soon as the henna is applied to the skin, it will begin to dry. The paste will crack as it dries, and when it starts to crack, keep it moist for as long as possible. Squeeze a wedge of lemon and mix it with a bit of sugar. When the henna has dried enough to be stable, re-moisten it by dabbing it with a cotton ball soaked in the lemon/sugar mixture. This has a twofold effect: the acid in the lemon helps the skin continue to take in the stain, and the sugar creates a sticky coating that helps hold the henna on the skin. If you can, leave the paste on for 8-10 hours.

    (3) Small Flowers Design

    henna4

Start off small and build your confidence! This is easy to apply as you start with a flower in the centre of your hand then add just two more. The lace effect is just made by drawing lines – simple.

    (4) Easy Mehandi design

    henna6

If you want something super low risk then a question mark design is a lot easier to draw free-hand than a flower. Do a question mark shape and then fill in with dots. You can elaborate this by adding a design to other fingers.

    (5) Traditional Mehandi stencils

    henna3

Create your own designs by mixing and matching several of these sticker stencils that I found on Amazon. It allows you to be creative, but at the same time be safe because all you’re doing is painting over a stencil. Put the small stickers on your fingers and then use the long stencils to flow elegntly down your wrists.

    (6) Semi circular borders chain design

    henna5

This looks super complicated but it’s not as hard as it looks as there are no flowers to master. It’s just plain lines and lots of semi circles on the plain lines. Build the lines gradually and go step by step doing each line at a time in a systematic way. It may look advanced, but really how hard is it to do a line and a semi circle then keep going?

    (7) Traditional flower Mehndi design

    ??????????????????????????????????

Do the palm portion portion first. Create a big flowe building up the petals slowly. Then fingers are filled up with mehandi design which can compliment the palm designs, such as swirls and question marks. This is one huge flower and a lot of swirls. If you take your time, and maybe practise on a piece of paper first you can do it.

What do you think? Are you ready to give henna a try?

Top Five Hacks To Achieve Perfect Eyeliner

    54aadf7215ec0_-_elle-dita-von-teese-1-xln

When I look at celebrities’ make-up, I always check to see how they’ve done eyeliner. If there’s one element of the face where you have to get it perfect it’s eyeliner. If it’s smudged or it’s too big or too winged then you just don’t looked groomed.

I used to be of the mentality that if you can’t do it right then don’t even bother trying, but the benefits of a clear and perfectly angled cats eye flick outweigh the risks. So I practised and I learned some simple tricks to make it more achievable. You’ll find it easier if you follow these five make-up hacks:

    (1) Use a pencil before using a liner

Black cosmetic pencil. Women eyes closed. Long eyelashes.

If you don’t have much confidence, a pencil is easier to use than a liquid liner. Draw on a thin line.

Before you start, I advise checking the state of your kohl pencil. Is the tip sharp enough? I carry a pencil sharpener with me everywhere I go because a blunt pencil means a less accurate line and it only takes two seconds to sharpen.

Secondly, I find if you heat up the kohl slightly then it’s easier to use. Rub the sides between your fingers or use a lighter or a match to melt it slightly. It glides on smoother that way, and if it’s smooth you’re more likely to get a line the flows rather than stopping and starting.

    (2) Use eyeliner to go over the pencil

    eye2

Trace over the pencil line with liquid liner. Go slowly, so you stick to the line as best as possible but don’t panic if you go a bit over because step 3 will help…

I advise picking your liquid liner carefully – not all brands are great. Look for the size of the tip. The shorter the tip, the more detailed you can be as you have more control over the line. The Tom Ford liquid liner, which I love, has two ends – one with a short tip for detail and one with a wispy tips or creating flicks.

If you want it to last a long time, make sure it’s waterproof. Also, do some research and see how much pigment the liner contains. Illamasqua liner has a great reputation for having a strong pigment, which will take you from day to night.

    (3) Tidy it up with a cotton swab

    eyeliner_without_much_time_5

Dip a cotton swab in eye make-up remover so you can remove splotches and make the line sharp.

Take your time over this as you don’t want to remove any of the actual line. Hold the cotton in your right hand and use the left hand to stretch the skin as stretched skin shows the accuracy of the line better. Remember to keep some cotton swabs in your make-up bag so you can touch up your face during the day / night. Wrap them in a small plastic bag or they’ll soak up dirt from the inside of your make-up bag.

    (4) To create the perfect flick, use a spoon

    eye3

Use the handle of a tea spoon to draw the flick and the curve of the spoon to fill it in.

Obviously, this only works if you’re at home as most people’s make-up bags aren’t big enough for a spoon. But once you’ve created a flick at home, if you fill it in and touch it up during the day then it will last. Again, take your time as it’s important to get a shape you’re proud of that you want to show off all day long.

    (5) Increase the drama by highlighting your brows

    eye-end

If you have more space in your eye area, people notice your liner more. Give yourself more space by shading a white highlighter above and below your brows.

Brows frame the face, so do remember to keep your threading / waxing appointments and carry some tweezers. Eyeliner draws attention to your entire eye area, and you don’t want to point out scruffy brows. The effect we’re aiming for is groomed, glamorous and gorgeous and everyone can achieve it!

    VIP Beauty: NUDE Skincare Review

I like to work out, I like to look pretty and I want to be kind to the environment and I think it’s ridiculously difficult to achieve all three. To clear my pores after a sweaty workout so I can look pretty, I look for strength and not necessarily kindness. To be kind to the environment, I use products that make clear skin clearer but don’t work so well on sweaty skin.

And then I found Nude skincare…

To give you a bit of a background on the product, Nude was developed in 2007 by ethical entrepreneurs Bryan Meehan and Ali Hewson. It’s high performance skincare, but the reason it’s effective is because it’s deeply rooted in nutrition. The unique formulas are based on ingredients the body needs for healthy glowing skin. Bryan founded the Fresh and Wild grocery chain and Ali Hewson was a co-founder of the ethical clothing company Edun so you can be guaranteed these products are as good for the environment as your face.

And not just the outside environment. These are products that you would be proud to display in your bathroom. Check out the luxurious packaging.

    Nude-Skincare

The fizzy powder face wash is especially brilliant.I love all fizzy things and now it seems like I’ve found some fizz that is good for my body. With multiple sources of vitamin C from delicious sounding ingredients like lemon and lime extracts and Brazilian acerola fruit and natural seeds from rose hip and vanilla to smooth the skin, the powder smells fresh. When you mix it with water and start to rub it over your skin it’s light and not at all cloggy. Wash it off and you are left with a glow, which I later found out is due to the pure oils inside it’s unique formula – Inca gold oil, Hawaiian coconut oil and organic virgin coconut oil.

    nude-face

But my favourite product has to be the ProGenius Omega Treatment Milk which is  the most satisfying moisturisers I’ve ever tried.

    1420489626_progenius-omega-treatment-milk_main_320x480

I have oily skin so I don’t always wear moisturiser, chosing to get those nutrients in a BB cream or a CC cream instead. But this serum is super light and packed with no less than 10 concentrated superfood extracts. You only need one pump of it and you can feel your skin going ‘aaaaah,’ the same sound you make when you’re super thirsty and you take a sip of water.

When I work out, I’m very careful to put nutrients back into my body with a healthy vegetable juice or a protein shake smoothie, and yet I’d never really thought about doing the same for my skin. This changes right now!

Find out more info on the Nude skincare website at NUDEskincare.com. Prices from £38

    Achieve The Best Matte Complexion

    brush

Do you have an exciting event to attend or a busy weekend coming up? When you’re running around enjoying yourself, the last thing you want to have to do is check your makeup is still in place and shine free. Many women find that after a few hours, makeup starts to become shiny around the t-zone. If you’re aiming for a matte complexion that can handle a busy schedule, try some of these tips. After you’ve tried out tips, you can match your lovely matte skin to one of our celebrity looks and you’ll be sure to feel like a VIP.

    Skincare

    brush2

It’s important that before you start applying your makeup, you already have a good skincare routine. The better you take care of your skin, the more success you’ll have with keeping your makeup in check all day. If you have oily skin, you need to make sure you are using products that will target the problem. Invest in products that can help you control oil and work over time rather than a quick fix. If you’re having trouble with your skin, you may want to consider something like a motorised skin cleanser. They will help you get deep into your pores.

    Moisturise

    brush3

So many of us when we apply our make-up forget to moisturise. Even if you are going for a matte finish, you should always moisturise your skin first. Makeup artists recommend that you should allow your moisturiser a chance to sink into your skin before you apply primer or foundation. Even if you have oily skin, moisturising first will work wonders for your skin.Try something that is designed to leave a matte finish for combination and oily skin.

    Prime

    brush4

Once your skin is feeling fresh and lovely, it’s key that you prime before applying any makeup! If you don’t prime, you’ll find that your makeup doesn’t sit as well or last as long. Primers can also have qualities that help keep your skin feeling lovely, you can even wear them on their own. An oil free primer  will help to control the dreaded shine all day.

    Foundation

    brush5

Choosing the right foundation can be the tricky part. Spend time shopping around and trying samples of different foundation till you find the right one. If you make sure you have the right product, you’ll spend a lot less time re-applying your foundation through the day. If you prefer a full coverage, make sure you pick a product that is buildable and breathable. If you prefer a lighter coverage, you may want to try a BB cream or tinted moisturiser.

    Setting

    brush6

Once you’ve taken all the necessary preparation steps, the best way to keep your makeup matte is to set it with the right powder. Frends Beauty supply Banana Powder by Ben NYE, well-known by makeup artists worldwide as the perfect powder to set your makeup. Banana powder is micro-milled to make sure it has a luxury, silky texture.

Once you’ve achieved the perfect base, you can begin adding finishing touches such as lipstick. Choose your other products carefully too, if you want an overall matte look, make sure your other makeup products compliment that. Now you’re ready to go!

Inside BAFTA TV Awards Style Suite

Have you ever wondered what it takes to look like a VIP? And when I mean VIP,  I mean worthy of walking the red carpet of the biggest award ceremony in the television calendar – the BAFTA TV awards.

The BAFTA TV awards 2015 are taking place in London’s Theatre Royal on 10 May, but the celebrities start getting red carpet ready at least a month before that. This year,  Bafta has partnered with the luxurious five star Corinthia hotel to host some ‘Style Suites’, containing all the elements a celebrity needs to make it into the Best Dressed section of the magazines. They can literally walk in wearing their skinny jeans and shades and emerge looking a million dollars having sorted an outfit, tanning, make-up, nails, hair and jewellery. Want to know what happens at each stage? I went through the process so I can talk you through each step. This is how I looked at the beginning:

    675A2233pp1

And this is how I looked at the end. I couldn’t believe it.

    FINISHBafta

All our fave TV stars follow this process – Tess Daly, Claudia Winkleman, Sheridan Smith and Olivia Colman will be getting ready the way I did.

It all starts with preparing the body by creating a base colour. St Tropez is the self-tan of choice for so many celebrities so I wasn’t surprised that they were involved in this event. I met tanner Jules Heptonstall, who has tanned celebrities like Kylie Jenner, Poppy Delevingne and Kate Moss. He applied a spray tan and then topped it up to create a glow that would attract attention from the flashbulbs.

    675A2284pp-blog

Next was the hair, where I met Mark Hill and his team of creative experts. How often do you get two men working on your hair at once – this is uber VIP. It took just 10 minutes to do my hair, using Mark’s gorgeous products.

    675A2394-2

MAC is the make-up partner, which I was really excited about as I wear it a lot, after getting into it during London Fashion Week one year (they’re the official make-up partner for it). I went for a soft smokey eye and a neutral lip and kept the foundation light with a pink blush to show off and complement the St Tropez glow.

    675A2532pp-make

With the grooming sorted, I found a gorgeous dress from a selection provided from House of Fraser. Now this bit was every girls dream.  There were rows and rows of dresses – golds and pinks and blacks. Some were long, some were short and some were embellished and some were plain. I opted for something spectacular in red, which was from the Biba brand. What do you think?

    photo-2

If you like it as much as I do, its available on the House of Fraser website.

And finally, the icing on the cake is always the jewellery and trust me, I went for lots of ice. I wore a lovely diamond bracelet from Carat, some ear-rings and this gorgeous ring. Again, it was every girls dream. Once I’d chosen my dress, a lovely lady suggested what jewellery would emphasise the best features of my outfit. We didn’t want to ruin the neckline of the dress but it was vital to have some sparkly things!

    675A2351pp-ring

Here’s the finished look, which I’m sure everyone would agree is an improvement on my starting photo. I truly felt red carpet ready after treatments by St Tropez, Mac, Mark Hill, House of Fraser and Carat in the stylish surroundings of the Corinthia hotel.  If you want to feel like a VIP too, then you need all these things in your life.

Fortnum & Mason’s New Beauty Hall

Why do most department stores have their beauty departments on the Ground Floor?  Live Like a VIP beauty editor Joanna Griffin and I think they are missing a trick as we were stunned when we took the lift to the second floor of London’s iconic Fortnum & Mason and walked out to this view:

    MG_0236

Fortnum & Mason has managed to create an oasis of calm and light, in complete contrast to most beauty halls that are a thrive of activity. It looks like an elegant lady’s dressing room, full of mirrors and opulent furnishings and most importantly, space to mill around and take a breather from the outside world. Cheers to that!

    zoe-jo

The focus seems to be on fragrance as there are three mini rooms, dedicated to all things scent. We were introduced to the Illuminum brand, which Kate Middleton wore on her wedding day to Prince William (she wore the White Gardenia Petals scent). Then we were dazzled by a spectacular collection of Roja Dove’s perfumes.

    photo 3 copy

In this collection, there’s everything from the woody Arab perfume Aoud, to a more floral scent called Enigma. They’re all super strong Eau de Parfums and I could still smell what I splashed on my wrist as I climbed into bed at the end of the night. It is not cheap, but it’s worth paying for quality like that.

Fragrance has the power to make you feel more brave and adventurous, so when we passed the new British make-up brand Delilah we had to stop by to get more info.

    photo 3

The packaging is utterly gorgeous, but what’s inside is even better. There are no chemicals or parabens and real thought has gone into the colours in the range. They don’t have confusing shades of nudes of corals – they just have one of each that suits everybody. The foundation is probably one of the best I’ve ever tried, making my skin looked flawless. Here I am with Rupert Kingston, one of the three co-founders of the brand. This man knows a lot about make-up!

    photo 4

Because of the light in the building, there was no shock when I looked in the mirror after leaving the party. Well, actually there was. I was shocked at how much better I looked leaving the party than arriving!

But foundation can only go so far in transforming your skin and we could all do with making sure our cleansing and exfoliating regime is as good as it possible can be. As we walked around the Beauty Hall, we did see some things we’d heard a lot of buzz about previously, like the Cult 51 serums.

    photo 5

Joanna tested an exfoliator on her hand, and I wished I took before and after photos as one hand looked really smooth after just 2 mins with this. You could really see the difference getting rid of the top level of dead skin made, which makes me more motivated to stick to an exfoliating regime.

Need a gift? Check out this beautiful range of Fortnums’ bath and beauty products:

    photo 1 copy

I’m told that Bamfords will release a collection exclusively for Fortnums in June, with an in-store spa. We thought the space was good right now and it is alreday making plans to get even better! It’s a haven for stressed women in the heart of the city where you can walk in knowing that you will find the best beauty brands and when you try them on you’ll be doing it in natural light and with a degree of privacy. Ideal for VIPs and aspiring VIPs.

For more information, visit the Fortnum & Mason website

How To ALWAYS Look Like A VIP

In order to be a VIP, you need to look like a VIP. Even if you’re not classed as a VIP right now, looking like one will get you to where you want to be much sooner. You never know who you might bump into, so looking like a VIP wherever you go is a good idea. Here are some tips you might find useful…

Carry an Emergency Kit With You

You never know what might happen while you’re out and about, so carry an emergency kit with you wherever you go. This kit could contain whatever you deem necessary to stay looking fresh. It’ll depend on multiple factors: where you’re going, the weather, and more. Here are a few suggestions:

    • A hair brush.
    • An umbrella.
    • Makeup essentials.
    • A small mirror.
    • Body spray.

You’ll more than likely need a large bag if you carry an emergency kit with you every day. It can be troublesome, but you’ll be glad you’ve put one together when the time comes!

Keep Hair and Makeup Neat and Tidy

    79efbb2c6cfa99bc040e67fd2c047b22

Your hair and makeup should always be neat and tidy if you want to look like a VIP. Your hair or makeup style isn’t too important, as long as it looks seamless. Here are some tips you can use:

    • Make sure your makeup is blended seamlessly. You shouldn’t have tide marks or any other telltale signs present.
    • Your hair shouldn’t have knots – if you backcomb, make sure you’ve covered it sufficiently. Checking all over your hair with a mirror before you leave the house will help.
    • Use high quality makeup to make sure it stands the test of time.
    • Always do makeup in natural light.

    Wear Classy Clothes

Classy clothes are a must for VIPs. Consider putting a capsule wardrobe together so you can mix and match certain items without spending an absolute fortune.

    Hire A Car Service

A car service can be beneficial if you have a meeting or event to attend. Arriving in style is a sign of a true VIP!

    Be Organized

VIPs are always organized. Make sure you have everything you need with you, like any important documents or forms of identification. You won’t look like much of a VIP if you’re all over the place and don’t know if you’re coming or going!

    Feel Confident

    Screen Shot 2015-04-27 at 11.56.10

Feeling confident is an absolute must if you want to look like a VIP. VIPs are always confident, without fail. If you’re not a naturally confident person, it isn’t a problem; it can be worked on! There are classes you can take that will teach you to be more confident, or you can work on it yourself. Simply think confident thoughts. Tell yourself you feel confident until you actually feel it. It really works if you’re consistent!

These tips will make you look like a VIP almost instantly. Put them into practice ASAP to become the VIP you want to be. Have some useful hints and tips of your own? Then leave a comment.

    See you later!

    VIP Hair: Best Blowdry

The bigger my hair looks, the better my mood. When it’s sleek, glossy and under control, I literally feel like I could rule the world. I also think visiting a salon will always leave your hair better than you could do  it yourself. The stylist has two hands on your hair and is coming at it from behind, whereas your arms are twisted before you start. Therefore I’m on a mission to find the best blowdry in London.

I’m starting with the Cobella hair salon in Kensington, West London for the simple reason that the video the team have done showcasing their creative talents looked incredible:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfUMLzvVHso This list sums up the best bits about the Cobella experience:

    (1) Convenient location It’s just a five minute walk from High Street Kensington station so you can fit it in to a day of shopping. I got my party outfit (at Zara) and then headed opposite to get my party hair!

    (2) Modern but comfortable salon TEAM-NEW-3

I felt relaxed and looked after from the moment I stepped through the door. It’s modern and fresh, but not at the expense of practicality. There’s a lot of light, the mirrors are big and the seats are suitably far apart. This mean that I felt I had my stylist’s undivided attention when I was in my position and I could look in the mirror and inspect what was going on.

    (3) Regulars There is a really friendly atmosphere in this salon. In fact, the amount of air-kissing that goes on is unbelievable! The stylist that did my hair, Cilla, told me this was because the ladies come in three to four times a week. Some of them don’t even have shampoo at their own homes. I thought that was a good sign – it must be good if people visit so much and keep coming back.

    (4) Speed I asked Cilla if I could be done in 30 minutes as I was due to get in a taxi to take me to Covent Garden in less than that time. There was no messing around nor loss of attention and Cilla and I had a great conversation about blogging in that time. I don’t like it when hair cuts take ages, so I was very happy about this.

    (5) Finish A blowdry can be quick and comfortable but the proof is always in the end result isn’t it. This is how I ended up:

    zoecobella

I loved how shiny and bouncy it was! My hair isn’t my favourite length at the moment but the soft curls made me feel feminine again. There was a good amount of backcombing in there too, which was appreciated. If I can’t have volume with the length, at least I can have it with the top! I needed the power hair for a debate I did at the Hospital Members Club in Covent Garden about blogging (video coming soon). As you can see from the photo below, my hair was way bettter than Katie Hopkins, which set me off in a good mood,

That 30 minutes getting my hair blow dried made me feel fabulous all night so I’d definitely go back, especially if I needed to do some shopping on the same day.

OVERALL RATING: 9/10. I’m nervous about rating it so highly as I haven’t tested many places yet, but I couldn’t fault it. My biggest issue is that the Live Like a VIP offices are in Shoreditch, on the opposite side of town so it took a while for me to travel there.

    VIP Spa Review: Cobella

Are you finding it hard to shift those last few pounds? Are you like me in the way that no matter how much dieting and exercise you do, the weight goes from one area and not another? I think I’m Kardashian-like in one respect in that I’m blessed with a naturally large derrière.

The curse of a naturally large behind (as we all know there are rumours about the Kardashians achieving theirs with fat implants) is that the fat deposits on the bum lead themselves more naturally to cellulite. While it’s great to have a bottom that looks peachy in jeans, it’s not ideal to have a rear that looks like moon craters when you’re in a bikini and lying on the beach.

So I decided to book into the Cobella spa in Kensington, West London to do something about it. There’s a treatment called Technispa, which uses electronic currents to push the advanced Guinot slimming / anti-cellulite gel to areas under the skin that couldn’t be penetrated from simply rubbing on cream / gel. The area where cellulite gathers is deep under the skin so working out doesn’t affect it either as it’s not in a place where it can be broken down through better circulation.

As I’m about to go on holiday to Malta where I’ll be staying in one of the best hotels in the country – the Corinthia  St George’s Bay hotel and spa – I need this anti-cellulite treatment!

My first impressions were better than expected. The spa is located under the Cobella hair salon on High Street Kensington but from the moment you descend the last stair and sit on one of the comfortable sofas in the reception area, you completely the hustle and bustle off outside.

With no noise from anywhere you could be in the spa of a posh hotel and posh is certainly a good word to describe it. In the changing, nothing is scrimped on. You’re given a dressing gown so soft you could cuddle up in it and go to sleep, along with spa slippers. By the mirrors, there are bottles of luxurious Guinot products – cleansers and moisturisers. Hair dryers and hair straighteners mean you can fix up and look sharp after your treatment. After an hour’s pampering, it’s so easy to look sleepy and bedraggled but if you’re fitting it into a working day, like I was, then the hair straighteners are much appreciated.

But I wasn’t there for the changing rooms, I was there for a Technispa treatment. It was with some trepidation that I lay on the bed, wondering how much pain I was in for. My treatment was carried out by the spa manager, Georgia Mann, who did a lot to reassure me. We started by discussing my concerns (the backs of my legs) and decided that the best use of that time was to focus on that area rather than treat the fronts of my thighs, which I don’t have a problem with.

Georgia also told me it doesn’t have to be painful in order for it to be effective. The current doesn’t hurt at all, it’s actually quite relaxing. But there are different levels of suction to create a vacuum between your skin and the air to push the cream down. If you’re not used to the suction it does feelpainful if you go for a high setting. I decided to keep it light as it was my first experience of it. Besides, it’s the current that stimulates the cells, not the suction.

At this point, I have to admit I did not take any photos of myself having it done as I didn’t think any of you readers would want to see my cellulite. That’s way too much information! So I found another photo online of the Technispa treatment device (although this is not at Cobella).

You hold one end of the current in your hand to give it a full circuit around your body. The therapist works the other over your problem areas. It’s not a scary device and as long as the suction is at the right level you can close your eyes and chill out.

The treatment lasted 30 minutes and that passed so quickly that I didn’t want it to be end (which just goes to show that it can’t have been painful). Although it’s advisable to have a course of six, I definitely felt a difference after one session from the moment I climbed off the bed. My legs felt so loose and light that I felt I could run a marathon that moment.

Cellulite is essentially a build-up of toxins that gathers around fat and so what had happened during the Technispa process was that some (maybe not all) of my toxins were broken down. That’s what I could feel straight away when I stood up. When I’ve had a few more treatments I’ll show you a Before and After photo so you can see for yourself.

I will definitely be visiting Cobella again. If a treatment like this can be relaxing, I can only imagine how fabulous a massage or facial feels. Also, I’ve heard really good things about the salon’s Oxygen Facial using oxygen to infuse vitamins and minerals through the skin.

Brand new treatments are coming in the Spring so if you’ve previously visited Cobella, maybe it’s time to check out again what they offer.
