‘Tis the season for red wine, holly berries and deep red nail polishes. It’s a time for cranberry sauce on top of the turkey and plum pudding. Now that we’re in the depths of winter, I’m embracing warm, rich damson tones. It warms the heart and makes me feel cosy.
It’s a lovely colour to introduce to your wardrobe in Winter as it works well with blacks and indigo blue meaning you can wear it with your skinnies or with a leather skirt and boots. It’s less obvious than navy blue and it especially suits those with darker hair like me (although blondes can wear it too).
As it’s a deep, luxurious colour you can layer it up with fur for a nighr out, just like I did at Sushisamba.
Whether you want to add some glamour to your daytime causals or turn heads when you go from the office to a party, there are some truly beautiful damson knitwear options. If you’re not sure about the colour and want to test the waters, try a damson scarf. Here are my favourite casual, smart casual and accessories pieces this season:
It wouldn’t be Winter without layers. Uniqlo have a merino wool cardigan (centre) which is perfect for days when you don’t know what the weather is doing or you’re commuting and have to get on hot tubes / trains.
For those days when you just don’t want to leave your bed, a roll neck is a must. When your neck’s warm you can pretend that you’re still snuggled under the duvet with it pulled up to your face. M&S have a super affordable damson rollneck that has the Holly Willoughby seal of approval.
The best everyday option is the Crew Clothing Salcombe essential knit. This would add a touch of luxe to jeans, helping you to feel smarter and in control even when you don’t have many plans.
Combine damson and sequins and you get a colour that pleases the eye and then that eye is drawn in further by the sequins. You may find people stop and stare (in a good way!). On the left we have the Crew Clothing sequin spot jumper in fresh damson, which has a subtle shine. I love the sophistication and the effortless elegance of it.
For nights when you really want to shimmer without compromising on warmth, try the V by Very sequin embellished jumper on the right.
Nervous about damson? You need the Crew Clothing valley ditsy scarf in your life. It livens up any block colour knitwear you have and is light enough to wear when inside for some added interest to your outfit. I also like the Royal Academy damson scarf because it’s made of cashmere. There’s just something about enveloping your neck in a super soft fabric that feels like you’re treating yourself. It’s £60 but you’ll get a lot of wear out of it between now and Summer.
What are your thoughts on damson?
