VIP Hair: Top 5 London Blow Dries

When my hair feels good, I feel good! Nothing beats a bit of bounce in your hair to put a spring in your step and a smile on your face. That’s why I’m on a mission to find London’s best blow dry.

At this point, I must apologise to readers who don’t live anywhere near the capital. If you’re coming to London for a party or a day out then make a note of these places for future reference. You won’t get a bad ‘do’ at any of the salons listed below. And if you’re not coming to London, then check out the blow dries offered by your nearest independent salon and see what’s won awards. As a rule of thumb, avoid chains like Toni & Guy / Essensuals etc as my experiences have found the smaller salons put more work into it.

In order of preference, this is what I recommend if you want shiny, happy hair that makes you feel like an A’list celebrity:

1. Cobella

One of my favourite things about Cobella is that they’re quick, which is great if you’re trying to fit a blow dry into a busy day. There’s a great head massage when they’re washing your hair and the products they use smell divine that day and the day after. In fact, you could get three days out of one blowdry.

What I liked most is that they leave my hair big yet smooth. I’m not a big fan of beach waves as my hair has a tendency to frizz. However, there’s nothing more depressing than flat hair. The Cobella team always use the hairdryer on wet hair so you get the sleek look and then add some extra waves with tongs afterwards.

COST: From £31

LOCATION: 5 Kensington High Street, London. Phone 020 7937 8888. Visit the Cobella Website for more details.

2. Blow At Home

While I love visiting a salon, drinking tea and having a good chat, I don’t always like travelling there. If it’s raining, I get in a really bad mood – worried that my carefully coiffed hair will be damaged on the way home. For that reason, Blow Beauty on Demand is my go-to service in colder weather.

It’s as easy to book as an Uber. Simply download the App from the App store, request the service and they’ll come to your home, office or gym as long as it’s within London zones 1 – 3. I like to get them to come to the gym as then my hair’s freshly washed and I don’t have to tidy my home. Get it done in the morning and you’ll feel fabulous all day long.

COST: £40 for a blow-dry. Other services inc make-up and manicures are available.

LOCATION: The App store! Or visit the Blow website.

3. Leticia Haute Coiffure

If my day involves meetings in central London, Pierre Doumit at Leticia Haute Coiffure is a man I can trust to make me look gorgeous. He instinctively knows how I’m feeling and suggests hair styles to match. Normally, I opt for the same hair style all the time, but Pierre persuades me to try new things and I’m always happy with the results, leaving the salon feeling like a new person.

If I’m in a rush, he can turn me round in between 15-20 minutes. I’ve never known anyone to be as quick. Nothing’s ever rushed, I never feel stressed and yet I can be in and out in less time than it takes to eat lunch.

COST: Creative director Pierre charges from £40 but other stylists are available. They also offer amazing massages.

LOCATION: 59 Chiltern Street, London W1U 6NF. Visit the Leticia Haute Coiffure website.

Duck and Dry

Three words: ‘Prosecco on Tap’.  Duck and Dry is London’s most fun blow dry, where I go if I want to get the party started early. It’s a great place to meet a friend so you can both get glammed up together before you hit a party or a bar / restaurant.

The downside is you do have to choose from a blow dry menu, but there are plenty of styles so there should be something to suit all tastes. I usually go for the High Tides Waves style.

COST: From £30 (and £6 per glass of Prosecco)

LOCATION: 333-335 King’s Road, London SW3 5ES. Visit the Duck and Dry website.

Blo London (by Alis Prrul)

I used to pop in to Blo London in Covent Garden’s piazza from time to time, as it was centrally located and the staff were super friendly. Sadly, Blo London has now closed but I’m happy to say that my favourite stylist, Alis, is setting up on her own and visiting people’s houses / offices.

Alis can calm me down if I’m feeling stressed and she knows what to say to take my mind off a busy day. But most importantly, she can create big, smooth curls and I swear the way she does my hair makes me look younger. As testament to her professionalism and no-fuss attitude, she can work with limited equipment as a hairdryer almost blew up in her hand during one of my visits and she simply found another one and carried on.

COST: £30

LOCATION: Alis will come to your house / office or you could visit her if you’re near Stratford. Email
