What do Kim Kardashian and Courtney Cox have in common? They are both rumoured to be fans of Ultherapy – a non-invasive treatment for the face that lifts skin on the neck, under the chin and above the brow.
The treatment uses ultrasound to heat targeted tissue under the skin, triggering the natural production of collagen. But is it as good as it sounds? We had a Q&A with Lee Garrett, the UK’s leading skin guru based on London’s Harley Street, to find out more:
Can you tell me what makes Ultratherapy unique?
As we get older, our skin loosens and starts to sag. It’s part of the ageing process that we all dread so much but it’s inevitable. I have recently launched a new treatment into my clinic called Ultherapy which is described as many as the future of anti-ageing treatments – it’s technology is like no other. By using a high frequency ultrasound device, Ultherapy treats underneath the skin to the very deep layers where only until now plastic surgeons could reach. It’s accuracy is revolutionary, as a non invasive treatment that can take an accurate reading of the area to be treated. What also makes it unique is that it can be used to life the neck, chin, brow and improve lines and wrinkles on the décolletage. As the latest innovation of skin tightening, Ultherapy can offer a pain-free non surgical facelift with zero downtime.
Who would you recommend it for and is there anyone it wouldn’t suit?
This wouldn’t suit patients that are heavily sun damaged and smoke 20 a day since they were a teen! I would recommend it for patients that don’t want to have surgery but still want to look fresh and have youthful skin.
How long do the results last?
Results last 2 years and more in some cases. There is no down time. For those with busy lives it’s a fantastic treatment – you can be in and out without having to take the day off work and it can be done in an extended lunch break.
Is there anything which someone could do to boost the outcome?
I would advise using a professional skincare range such as ZO which will compliment the treatment.
Can you tell us about any other procedures which help with anti-ageing?
Line reducing injections help relax the facial muscles. Dermal fillers replace volume loss giving patients that youthful plumpness without the pillow face look.
In general, what are your top five skincare tips?
Drink plenty of water, don’t smoke, use SPF from the day you are born regardless of what season it is – this is imperative to looking after your skin. I would suggest only using scientifically proven products such as ZO. There are many products on the market but the majority of them won’t combat anti ageing and you will only be wasting your money. Having a skincare regime works – it’s simple and easy yet people are still lazy when it comes to looking after their skin. Also another tip is that prevention is better than cure. If you leave things too late no amount of creams will be able to get the results you want. This is why many people decide to have anti-wrinkle injections and fillers. It’s always a personal decision and one that needs to be made by the individual and my advice would be to always research who you are going to see and what they are offering. You must never be swayed by discounts or deals. Moreover each person has different requirements so if you are seeking some prevention treatments for the skin don’t be swayed by the latest celebrity craze – what is right for them may not be right for you. Reducing your sugar intake also makes a big difference as does exfoliating to get rid of the dead skin cells.
