My Secret Dressing Room: Review

Do you think every time Mel B and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini need an outfit for X Factor they go to the shops and buy something? Do you think that film stars buy their dresss for The Golden Globes and The Oscars? And I’ll let you into a little secret;

Now you don’t have to buy an outfit for a special occasion either as you can borrow one from My Secret Dressing Room.

As soon as I heard this service, which lets you rent dresses by the weekend, week or month, I was desperate to try it. I was told that once I’ve chosen a dress it would be couriered to me on the morning / afternoon of my choice, and a courier would also pick it up when I was done. And there are also designer shoes and designer handbags available that cost thousands if you buy in a shop but are available to rent for A LOT less.

With that, I logged on to MySecretDressingRoom to search for my Wow dress. There were a lot of parties I wanted to impress at this Christmas party season, but the party of December was definitely The British Fashion Awards. The pressure was on as I knew the guest list included Victoria Beckham, Kendall Jenner, Cara Delevigne, Rita Ora, Emma Watson, Alexa Chung, Nicole Scherzinger, Lewis Hamilton, David Gandy and Harry Styles.

These were my favourite options

Vivienne Westwood Anglomania one shoulder dress – £75 / weekend

Dolce & Gabanna diamante trim – £89 / weekend

Nina Naustdal Maggie dress  – £70 / weekend

In the end I went for this:

Reiss 1971 lace dress – £45 / weekend

My reasoning was that I am not an award winner so I don’t want to draw too much attention to myself. Also, maxi dresses can be quite uncomfortable to wear for an entire evening and I knew there was an after party in The Library members club. However, I still wanted a dress that hugged my curves and stood out. This is how it looked:

When it came to delivery, I was unlucky. Although I wanted it to arrive in the morning so I could run errands (and go to the hairdresser) in the afternoon, there was a problem with the delivery as the owner had given me the wrong dress. This meant the courier didn’t arrive at me until 4pm which made getting ready for my night out more stressful and rushed than I’d hoped. However, I am sure this wouldn’t happen that often and I was just unfortunate.

Would I do it again? Definitely. I’ve already seen a Louis Vuitton that I want to take away on my next holiday, which is amazing value at £63 for the week.

Do you get bored of your clothes after wearing them once? Do you like the quality and unique look of designer clothes? Have a look at My Secret Dressing Room right now and have a look.

Have fun at those parties!
